History, Awards & Accolades

The MRHS Wind Ensemble traveled to Indianapolis this Spring to perform as a featured Band at the Music for All National Festival. Our program was also awarded the William E. Richardson Program of Distinction Award from the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director’s Association. We are the only program in the State that has received this prestigious award five separate times.

We have been invited to perform at the AMEA Conference 10-times and in 2014 our Woodwind Choir and Saxophone Orchestra were invited to perform at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago. In addition, we consistently have numerous students selected to the All-Region and All-State Bands and Orchestras, as well as having all three concert bands, orchestra and two jazz bands consistently receiving Superior and Superior with Distinction ratings at Area, State Concert and Jazz Festivals.

We strive to offer many opportunities for our students to pursue Chamber Music including the AMEA Solo and Ensemble Competition, and competing in the Arizona Wind Symphony Small Ensemble Contest where we have had a group place every year since the inception of the competition.

Our Marching Band has consistently qualified for the ABODA State Marching Band Championships and concluded the 2018 competition season as the Division I ABODA State Championship Bronze Medalists and winner of the General Effect caption!

In addition, our Marching Band has performed in the Tournament of Roses Parade, has twice been invited to Hawaii to attend the 70th and 75th Pearl Harbor Anniversary events, attended the 2009 Presidential Inauguration for President Obama, performed at the 2015 Super Bowl and has twice attended the Fiesta Bowl National Championships.

Mountain Ridge has also produced several World Class DCI Finalist members in both Brass and Color Guard. This Spring, the Mountain Ridge Varsity Winter Guard brought home the Gold Medal for their 7th time as State Champions and are back to back to back Champions for 2017, 2018 and 2019. They also attended the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio and were Semi-Finalists in Scholastic Open Class. This is the highest placement for an Arizona Guard in the history of the WGI World Championships.
