Mountain Ridge Concert Ensembles

Mountain Ridge offers a wide variety of opportunities for creative development for students of music.  Each marching band member must enroll in a concert band and each concert band student must march in the band, with the exception of the Orchestra.

Orchestra:

This course will provide the opportunity for students to expand and refine their music performance skills relative to string activities. Students will study music that is appropriate for their skill level with an emphasis placed on exploring new and classic orchestral literature. In addition, this course is designed to advance students’ musicianship, musical knowledge, and performance skills through classroom instruction, instrumental pedagogy, group rehearsals, and performance opportunities. This course is aligned with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and/or national content standards and supports school-wide efforts to increase student achievement.

Symphonic Winds:

This intermediate level course will provide a similarly structured course of study and performance as the Symphonic Band, but at a higher level.  This includes both inside and outside environments, participation in marching band is a curricular expectation of every student. Students will study music that is appropriate for their skill level with an emphasis placed on exploring new and classic band literature. In addition, this course is designed to advance students’ musicianship, musical knowledge, and performance skills through classroom instruction, instrumental pedagogy, group rehearsals, and performance opportunities. This course is aligned with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and/or national content standards and supports school-wide efforts to increase student achievement.

Symphonic Band:

This entry-level course will provide the opportunity for students to expand and refine their music performance skills relative to wind band activities. Wind Ensemble:

The MRHS Wind Ensemble is the highest level concert band.  Our Wind Ensemble has performed at the 2019 National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis, Indiana and 7 times at the Arizona Music Educators State Conference. Students who successfully audition for and are accepted into the Wind Ensemble will learn more advanced musical theory and perform more challenging musical selections.  This course is designed to advance students’ musicianship, musical knowledge, and performance skills through classroom instruction, instrumental pedagogy, group rehearsals, and performance opportunities. This course is aligned with Arizona College and Career Ready Standards and/or national content standards and supports school-wide efforts to increase student achievement.
